VILNIUS JJAZZ ENSEMBLE/ ODD NUMBERS DOUBLE LP

ODD NUMBERS.jpg
ODD NUMBERS_edited_edited.jpg

Odd Numbers is a double LP by Vilnius JJAZZ Ensemble, developed over nearly three years as a cohesive artistic project rather than a collection of separate works.

The album brings together nine compositions by Jievaras Jasinskis, Karolis Šarkus, Liutauras Janušaitis, Simonas Šipavičius, Apolinaras Dubauskas, Gediminas Strupinskas, Domantas Razmus, Artūrs Duckis, and Pranas Kentra, forming a unified musical narrative shaped by the ensemble’s collective sound.

The album explores rhythm as a central element, particularly through the use of odd meters and shifting structures. These are combined with layered harmonic writing and a balance between composed material and improvisation. Rather than focusing on individual expression, the music is built around ensemble interaction, where transitions, textures, and form are developed collectively.

Odd Numbers moves between dense, high-energy sections and more minimal, spacious passages, maintaining a continuous sense of flow across the record. It reflects a compositional approach that is both structured and flexible, rooted in contemporary jazz while incorporating elements from minimalism and other genres
